Description
There are two tunes listed on the bottom:
- Pupchen du bist mein Angenstern
- Holzhacherbuben “Marsch”
Apparently the first is a traditional song from c1913, However the spelling is not as found in searches (perhaps Austrian?) and should read “Puppchen du bist mein augenstern” which roughly translates as ” Doll you are the star of my eyes”.
For the second tune this spelling translates as “Lumberjack boys March”, however I have also found it spelt Holzhackerbuam which translates as “Cheery Lumberjack march” so, “Lumberjack March” it is then!
The clockwork mechanism works well, once wound will play both tunes until placed back down on the table, then it will finish the current tune, and continue when next picked up.
There are age related scratches etc. There appears to be a warp so not flat, however it has a charm and children (and adults- admit it!) will always be fascinated by anything clockwork.
See photos for condition and detail of carving etc.
